Missing the Abilities and Disabilities: How Women with Disabilities Overcome Their Challenges and Create Wins Out of Losses

June 2 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Free

Hosted by SIETAR BC as part of the Longhouse Dialogues.

Over the past decades, women have excelled in all areas including education, career, attaining financial independence, and having their voices heard. While it is fair to say that we have all had our own set of struggles, women with disabilities have had to work twice as hard, if not more, to overcome adversity and achieve success. Through personal stories and group discussions, this workshop will discuss the challenges that women with disabilities face in Canada, how it impacts their lives, and celebrate their successes.

In 1991, Anu lost her vision due to a retinal detachment. Despite this setback, she has not allowed it to define her, but rather use it to fuel her towards meaningful work-to inspire, motivate and empower others to maximize their potential and opportunities and work towards living a positive and meaningful life.
