Action Areas and Legacies
The world’s largest conference on the health, rights and wellbeing of women and girls is coming to Canada and Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada is seizing upon the global spotlight and momentum that the Conference provides to improve Canada’s leadership on gender equality.
The Mobilization has identified three key action areas where progress is most needed:
- Gender Responsive Health System and Services
- Gender-Based Violence
- Women’s Economic Empowerment and Equal Opportunity.
For each Action Area, the Mobilization Secretariat has consulted with its Mobilizers to identify the most important legacies we are all working towards.
Legacies We Want to See
Legacies are what we collectively want to see come out of the Women Deliver 2019 Conference.
We see these Legacies as unifying goals and messages that binds us all together. They can be adapted to work alongside Mobilizers existing campaign and advocacy priorities and are not meant to supersede important work already taking place. These Legacies help connect the many organizations who work regularly on these issues as well as those not typically active in the same sector. This way, Mobilizers can share the same vision and can count on one another to make change happen.
Below are the Action Areas identified for the Mobilization and the legacy goals for each area:
GENDER-RESPONSIVE HEALTH SYSTEMS AND SERVICES

Health systems in Canada and around the world need to be gender-responsive and uphold the essential sexual and reproductive health and rights for women, girls, and gender diverse people, ensuring they survive, thrive and realize their right to health, dignity and equality.
GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

All dimensions of gender-based violence (GBV) need to be eradicated globally and domestically. These include sexual harassment, school-related GBV, harmful practices, child, early and forced marriage, female genital mutilation, as well as trafficking of women, girls and other marginalized communities to name a few.
WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

Economic empowerment and financial inclusion for both women and gender diverse peoples are key drivers of change. We must create enabling conditions (e.g. childcare, pay equity, etc.), provide voice and leadership to women, gender diverse people and their organizations and address unequal care responsibilities in the home.
*When we refer to women and girls, we are using an intersectional lens to refer to women and girls in all their diversity.
Below are the Mobilizers active in each of our Action Areas. Our hope is that this list will keep growing. Find out how you too can join the Mobilization!
